Category: Art Shows

For quite a while now I’ve been working to bring my art to a new place.  My abstracts have been very successful but the next step I wanted to reach was to incorporate some figures into them.  I’ve been taking life drawing lessons and sketching figures to get comfortable with the body’s shapes and proportions The Beachcombersand I finally put the two together in my latest painting “The Beachcombers”   This painting has already won the Mayor’s Award and a Merit Award at Central Brevard Art Association’s 11th Annual Cape Canaveral show.  When I posted it on my fb page I got more responses than ever!  I hope you like it.  Feel free to comment.  I am currently working on a follow-up piece so we’ll see how that one does.  I hope this is not just a one hit wonder but you never know.

“The Beachcombers” is a 30″ x 30″ acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas.

This weekend I will be at the Cocoa Beach Country Club for the Central Brevard Art Association’s “For the Love of Art” show & sale.

Hours are: Saturday, February 18th,  10-5  &  Sunday, February 19th,   noon-4       All are welcome.

And a follow-up on my last post, my acrylic painting “Tempest” received a Merit Award at the Strawbridge Art League’s “Vision 2012” show last weekend.

Hope you all have a lovely Valentine’s Day.

My acrylic painting “Tempest” will be among the artwork on display at the Strawbridge Art League’s Vision 2012 art show.    The show, at The Henegar Center for the Arts, located at 625 E.  I’m inviting everyone to like my artist page on facebook and also to like my page on the Abstract Artist website.  (Of course that’s if you actually find you do like them.)   You can do it by simply going to www.facebook.com/HelenWheatley.Artist  and  www.abstractartistgallery.org/Helen-Wheatley/  and clicking the like button.  Feel free to share my pages with whoever you think might like to see them as well.  My book, “Driven to Abstraction”, is supposed to arrive on Friday and the waiting is driving me crazy.  Why didn’t I spring for the express delivery?  I guess I thought I’d save a buck or two, which I’d much more happily spend on art supplies.  Oh well.

I’ll be heading down to the Henegar Center on Saturday bringing artwork to submit for Strawbridge Art League’s annual Vision Show.  Vision 2012 promises to be an exciting show with lots of talented artists entering their best works.  You must be a member to enter, but you can join at the take-in.  The Henegar Center for the Arts is located at 625 E. New Haven Ave. in Melbourne, Florida.  Take-in is scheduled for this Friday 2-6 pm & Saturday 10 am – 2 pm.

My watercolor class shows their work

This is such a busy time of year for artists in Florida after the summer doldrums.  For me, Central Brevard Art Association’s annual Heritage Isle show is coming up on November 12th & 13th.  I have nothing new available for that yet.  My watercolor classes at the Cocoa Beach Library start October 13th.  I have nothing prepared for that yet.  I’ll be in a show at Art Gallery of Viera in November.  I’m actually working on a few pieces for that one!  And that just starts the show season for me.  I’ve spent a lot of time in the studio lately, but I don’t seem to be making any headway.  I know I’ve said I work well under pressure, but good grief, if I don’t show some progress soon, well… that’s just not an option.  I could probably benefit from some time management training.  But who has time for that!?!  Any artists with any secrets to success out there?  I sure could use a few pointers.

Last night was the opening reception for the “Mom Would Love That” show at Art Gallery of Viera and if you missed it, well you can still see the exhibit through the month of May.  There was food and friends and music and finally, the reveal of my latest work.  I reached and even passed my goal of 16 new pieces.  21 of the 22 pieces I installed can still be viewed.  Stop in, take a look and let me know what YOU think.
