Lion Eyes

Wow, that was intense.  I finally reached my goal of 16 new paintings for my Artist of the Month exhibit at Art Gallery of Viera.

These new paintings will be on display beginning the evening of April 30th during the opening reception for the “Mom Would Love That” art show, through the month of May.

I’ve discovered lots of new techniques while working on them and I think the variety of colors, textures, and patterns will really engage the viewer.  The paintings are lively and bright and the paint seems to dance on the surface, sometimes intermingling and sometimes layered or overlapping.  Every stroke, scrape and splatter works together to create a unique, one of a kind, freestyle image.

Creativity Unleashed

The final push is on.  This is the last day to paint before I have to take my work to the framer.  Cheri of American Moulding has been my friend and framer for quite a while but we have been getting together even more to make sure I have my 16 new pieces framed and ready by the 30th.    Actually, they have to be picked up on the 29th, because they are to be hung on the 30th.   I have paint everywhere!  Creativity is messy, but I don’t know what I’d do if I couldn’t paint.

I am still busy creating pieces for my exhibit as Artist of the Month at Art Gallery of Viera.  My goal is to have 16 new pieces.

Symbolism

Symbolism, one of my new pieces. On display at Art Gallery of Viera beginning April 30th

The opening reception for the gallery’s “Mom Would Love That” show will be Saturday, April 30th 6-9 pm.  There will be a raffle for art baskets to benefit Sally’s Friends (a long term shelter for women & children)  All proceeds from the raffle will go to Sally’s Friends.    Artists are donating items for the baskets and tickets are $1 or 6 for $5.  The gallery will also be accepting donations of new toys, laundry detergent, paper products & diapers for the shelter.  Music will be provided by Charlie Shrum.

I’m entering a brand new acrylic piece titled “Flying Fish”

Amidst preparing for art shows, dealing with gallery business, working on a one day artist in residence demonstration and working with central Brevard High School Art Teachers to find this year’s scholarship recipient for Central Brevard Art Association, I am trying to prepare for May when I’ll be the featured artist at Art Gallery of Viera.  I’m planning an exhibit of my new series of acrylic abstracts and I find the more I paint, the further behind I seem to get.  I’ve sold some and others are tied up at an exhibit at Pizza Gallery & Grill.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m very pleased that they are being so well received.  I am enjoying them as well.  It seems every time I work on them I discover a new technique or a new tool to use to create an even more unexpected effect.  Here is a new one that is quite different.  Different color palette, different textures.

The Fifth Avenue Art Gallery presents “All 4 Love,” an exhibition comprising work of 78 artists, including work by Linda Brandt, former chairwoman of the Brevard Cultural Alliance.

Art in the show will be given randomly to ticket holders of the show’s special reception March 19.

Tickets cost $100, which includes admission for two, wine, refreshments and a work of art the ticket holder will choose.

Proceeds benefit Sentinels of Freedom Space Coast, which helps fund scholarships for severely injured military personnel from Brevard County after they return home from serving overseas.

The charity inspired Renee Decator to organize the exhibition.

“I thought it would be a cause artists would get behind, and they did,” she said. “They wanted to participate. It involved our whole community of artists. The museum printed the books.”

The reception is 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 19 at the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery, 1470 Highland Ave., Melbourne. Work in “All 4 Love” will remain on view in at the gallery until March 27. A book detailing the exhibition is available for $19 plus tax. Net proceeds for the book also will go to Sentinels of Freedom Space Coast.

*I will be there as one of the artists who has created an original artwork for the event.  When Rene asked me to participate, I had to say yes to such a worthy cause, no matter how busy I was.  My piece is an acrylic painting titled “Taking Flight”.

I will be at Pizza Gallery & Grill on Sunday, March 13th from 8-9 pm for the Opening Night Reception for the Exhibition of Abstract Art titled “Unreal”
Come see some of my newest works including Harbor Lights, Tempest and Triumphant.  These abstract acrylic paintings while small,  have great movement and colors that will draw you in.  Take a closer look and see the depth and underlying textures that make these powerful little paintings so dynamic.
Other artists exhibiting in this show are Judy Edwards, Jeff Filipski, Jamie Meagher and Noelle St. Germain.

Art Gallery of Viera’s new exhibit features artwork that responds to the request of many of our visitors,  “I’m looking for something to go over my couch”.  ad for March show  Join us on Friday, March 11th from 6-9 pm for some classic movies and popcorn and see this new display.

Check out my latest exhibit at the Central Brevard Library located at 308 Forrest Ave. in Cocoa.  I’ve just hung 12 new paintings as Central Brevard Art Association’s Featured Artist for November through December.   They are a collection of acrylic abstracts, that while small, are full of texture and color.

Heat of Passion

“Heat of Passion” is an example of the compelling colors and textures that are fundamental to this new series.  It swirls with movement and fiery colors.

“Graffiti” exudes the playfulness of wild abandon.  Textures are incorporated into the image from the beginning of the painting process and profoundly affect all of the following applications.

These paintings will be on display until January 6th.

It was an incredible night at the gallery.  The artists were excited to show their work, the community welcomed us and it was great to see so many old friends and meet so many new ones.  Guests mingled with the artists and learned more about their work all the while enjoying the live music provided by Matthew Heister & Dan Jordan.  Visit us Monday-Saturday 10 am- 9 pm or Sunday Noon- 6 pm at The Avenue, Viera.
